Allow me to introduce you to Michael Lassiter

Monday: MicroBusiness and Marketing Marvels

Every Monday, I like to highlight independent professionals who are excelling and are outstanding in their career.

Why do this? Because I’ve noticed that while each independent professional has their own beliefs and principles, they share a common mindset to fulfill their clients’ needs and build genuine relationships.

Today, I’m excited to share with you a motivational note from Michael Lassiter. Michael is a cybersecurity expert who’s part of the Starman Cybersecurity, a community of independent professionals with proven track record in the field.

Together with his colleagues, Michael is on a mission to protect the world from cyber crime, helping clients bridge cybersecurity workforce gaps in their companies.

To learn more about how Michael is becoming a leader in the cybersecurity industry, I encourage you to read his own statement of purpose below.

Michael Lassiter: Starman Cybersecurity Member

I am Michael Lassiter and I am a member of Starman Cybersecurity, a community of independent professionals established by Jordan Kendall.

Becoming an independent was a very distinct journey for me. I was in my late 20s when I moved towards an independent career, and I worked in the cybersecurity space for about 7 to 8 years.

The reason I decided to become an independent is because coming from a point of view where I was working full-time, I consider time as my most precious asset. When I was a full-time employee, I experienced working 50 hours per week.

That situation really put me in a place where I was pushed towards an independent career path, where I can meet the needs of different clients and small and medium-sized businesses.

One of the misconceptions I hear about being an independent is that people in this career path have a slightly less influence. Others underestimate independent professionals when it comes to this aspect.

That’s not true. Just because independents don’t represent a big company, it doesn’t mean that we are less capable. We can still do a lot of great things.

My advice to all the independent professionals out there is this: Your confidence must be bulletproof.

One proud moment I’ve had in my independent career was being able to help a luxury hotel chain in one of their web applications without them having to spend a lot of money. That’s really big for me because it’s always been my goal to make my clients satisfied.

On the other hand, some of the challenges I faced was believing in myself, being able to stand on my own feet, and being able to compete in the industry well without carrying a bigger company name.

I realized sometimes we think the space where we work is crowded, but when you think about it, it’s not because there’s a lot of small to medium-sized businesses all over the world. One company can’t just take all the work in assisting those businesses. You have to be there in that space as well.

I believe the future of the independent career is bright, because the pandemic has caused us to evaluate how we work. I think the independent lane is going to widen as many people realize they cannot just put all of their potential in the same company. If they want to further progress in life, they also have to think outside of the box.

Hope you’ve found this week’s insights interesting and helpful.

Stay tuned for next Monday’s MicroBusiness Marvels!
