Read a good book lately? This one will help you “fill your bucket” with positive interactions, moments, and thoughts!

FROM THE DESK OF MILES EVERSON:

As promised, I am bringing you my own voice each Friday with a topic of discussion or event that I find useful in my everyday business life and personal life. My hope is that my experiences and personal interests help you in your career and life as well.

This week in particular, I am recommending a book that will help you move your career goals and personal goals forward. For me, reading and staying up to date on the latest tips and studies on what it takes to develop yourself as an individual is highly important.

As a strong proponent of continued learning, I believe it is also important to implement the knowledge you take away from these works. This is why I am sharing with you this book that will help you prepare for new challenges and develop new habits.

Go all-in this upcoming year! As you give this book a shot, you’ll walk away with concrete advice on how to reach your goals and become your best self this 2022.

How Full is Your Bucket?

This includes reflecting on what we could be doing differently, what habits we should break, or what skills we need to create to make our new year’s resolutions a reality.

However, to truly “live our best life,” we first have to pinpoint what areas in our life are hindering us from reaching our full potential… and as I personally do this, I found New York Times’ and BusinessWeek’s bestselling author Tom Rath’s latest book, “How Full Is Your Bucket?,” as my top tool to identify the “energy vampires” in my life.

After reading Rath’s book, I had a greater understanding and awareness of how each interaction I had with others affected me. I began to notice the things and events that affected my overall productivity, health, and mindset not only for a day but also for a week or even a month.

Rath’s ability to ask vital questions, give numerous anecdotes, and explain decades of research in one book will compel you to reflect on how you choose to “fill your bucket” with people and experiences that will either prevent or support you from being the best version of yourself.

Personally, this book helped me break bad habits of excusing my own and others’ behaviors that were preventing me from reaching my full potential. The lessons I learned from this written work made me realize and swallow the hard truth of the negative impacts of certain behaviors and interactions I had become accustomed to doing in my everyday life.

The moment I chose to actively change my behavior and fill my bucket with more positive and fulfilling interactions and experiences, I noticed I did not only become happier, but I also became more efficient and successful in my career.

Two of my major takeaways from this book?

  • Understanding the importance of being aware of where I invest my time and energy.
  • Taking the time to truly take care about the circumstances and interactions that affect my mood.

Organized around the metaphor of a dipper and a bucket and grounded in 50 years of research, Rath’s book will show you how you can increase the positive moments in both your work and personal life.

I encourage you to pick up a copy of Rath’s book!

If you truly want to identify the areas in your life that you need to change this year, “How Full is Your Bucket?” will teach you the importance of filling yourself up with positive experiences and interactions that will lead to lasting changes this 2022 and in the next years to come.

Stay tuned for the next important step towards achieving financial freedom!
