Allow me to introduce you to Denise Thomas

Monday: MicroBusiness and Marketing Marvels

Each Monday, I feature outstanding independent professionals with the hope that you might benefit from their insights.

In my many years supporting people in an independent career, one thing I’ve noticed is while they have their own principles in life, they are similar in terms of fulfilling their clients’ needs and building genuine relationships.

Today, I’m excited to share with you a motivational note from Denise Thomas. Denise is the President of The Effective Communications Coach, LLC, the company she founded in 2017.

She is also a Lead Facilitator at Norbert College and an adviser to several non-profit organizations’ Board of Directors and Advisory Councils. Aside from that, she is a Master Trainer and 360 Feedback Coach.

To learn more about how Denise is becoming a leader in the communications industry, I encourage you to read her own statement of purpose below.

Denise Thomas: The Effective Communications Coach, LLC

I am Denise Thomas and I am the President of The Effective Communications Coach, LLC.

My company guides professionals from entry level to C-Suite Executives on how good communication can drive advancement and innovation in their careers and businesses.

As a team, we transform people into extraordinary leaders through mastering the art of effective communication.

I’ve been an independent for about 6 years now. Actually, I started my own business back in 2015 but I was still working as a full-time employee at that time. It was only in 2017 when I decided to become a full-time independent and dedicate my time to enhancing my organization.

As an independent professional, I’ve always wanted to make sure people are experiencing how my business differs from other brands out there. For me, that’s the most important thing because that’s where I create relationships with other people.

I believe how I’m seen as a business leader today has everything to do with branding… and it is always important to stay relevant.

As independents, we are usually measured by our performance, therefore we always have to provide an experience that’s beneficial to people no matter what type of industry we are in.

One piece of advice that I can give to my fellow independent professionals is this: Your career path has everything to do with believing in yourself and trusting the process.

For us who are between the ages of 35 and 65, we’ve been conditioned that the great American dream was to go to school, get a job, and stay at that job. If you’re going to do something that requires a leap of faith, it’s going to take every ounce of courage to believe in yourself.

I think relationship building is one of the most discounted but most critical components of being a successful independent. It’s not about who you know, it’s about who knows you.

Word of mouth is everything. I love it when people post on my LinkedIn or Instagram and they tag me. For me, that’s priceless! You can’t purchase that authentic and genuine positive feedback about your product or service.

One of my proudest moments as an independent professional happened last year. Amidst the global pandemic and various stresses of 2020, these challenges pushed people to become more empathetic towards each other.

Because of that, my business soared. A lot of clients are coming to my company to ask for tips on how to tackle such sensitive issues in front of other people. For 3 years of my business’ existence, 2020 was my most successful year.
